Advertising Series #10 - Celebrities (part 1)
(All credits going to author Dupont, 1001 Advertising Tips, Ideas and Strategies from The World's
Greatest Campaigns, I just help to translate and demonstrate more with pictures).
Hi friends.
I decide to change gear a little bit, so I want to come back the Advertising Series. Here are some reasons that ad agencies love using the image of celebrity.
In general, most super stars help improve the popular degree and the credibility of the products. An Advertising Image research with a good amount sample of 30.000 customers shows that 10 of 25 most-favorited ads in 1986 used the image of celebrity.
Every 5 TV-broadcasted ads is 1 ad using the image of celebrity. Starchresearch.org shows that celebrity-related ads has a better rate of success, up to 13%. These ads do not only increase the attention and the identity, but also they gain more love of audience due to the presence of celebrities.
One good example is the success of Nike when the shoes giant signed an ad deal with Michael Jordan in 1985. This deal has helped Nike increase their market globally. Another example was the time when Brook Shields made an announcement in the Calvin Klein's ad that she won't let anything stop her to get a pair or CK jeans (ridiculously :D, yeah ad is ironic). Also, we remember some huge influential celebrities, such as Beyonce with Pepsi-Cola, Christina Anguilera with Virgin Mobile, and here is something fun that JT used to be a spokesman, as well as, act in an ad of McDonald (not cool! JT, compared with the Budlight Ad in 2013)
Let's take a look of some celebrity-related ads.
Nike - Michael Jordan
Beyonce - Pepsi-Cola
Calvin Klein - Brook Shields
McDonalds - JT (1)
McDonalds - JT (2)
(somehow, I cannot include the ad having JT on here. So, I give you the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0XSuOW5Mfw)
(This is a clip from the Jimmy show, but I think they include the ad of McDonald and the fun of the show together; basically, you are enjoying an ad from McDonald and think it as an entertainment show.)
and JT actually had a song titles copy the same slogan of McDonald: I'm Lovin' it
What are celebrity-related ads that you like?
Share with me. I am curious!
