Redefine the Hard Work

Everybody is trying to study hard and work hard. However, do working and studying longer means you are productive?

We have passed the Industrial Age many years ago. The time of working longer hours has long gone. The time of punching your hours has long gone. During the Information Age, the hard work is measured by how much value you have added to the society and how hard the problem you are trying to solve. Working hard means tackling works that is really and truly hard, it is not about the longevity of time.

Working hard is taking risks, solving problems, and creating cool stuffs. Taking risks is when you have a tough conversation with your boss, "We are getting into a wrong direction. Here is why." Taking risks is when you try a different approach to solve a problem that people say, "It cannot be done by that way." Working hard means solving bigger problems and answer bigger questions in your life, such as:

1. What is the purpose of my life?
2. What fears am I avoiding and how can I get over it?
3. What dreams/goals do I want to achieve?
4. What kind of lifestyle do I want to have?
5. What motivates me to live?
6. How can I help people around me have a better life?
7. What things do I want to create?
8. If this week I would die, how would I live differently?
9. What are stopping me to become a better entrepreneur / a student / a son, etc...you name it?
10. What do I wish to be done before I die?

If you ask yourself harder and better questions and make yourself think about it and work on it, the quality of your life will be changed. Moreover, our lives are limited. We only have a short time on earth. So, we must creating cool stuffs. What does that mean "Creating cool stuffs"? The answer is making a difference. The difference only can be done by you, by your existence on earth at this moment. NOW.

  • A waiter, making a difference is putting smiles on customers' faces.
  • A teacher, making a difference is engaging students and giving them not only the knowledge, but lead them to good (even better) directions in their careers and lives.
  • An entrepreneur, making a difference is getting your product to the market (not keep it on a stupid business plan forever) and improve it.
  • A leader, making a difference is making a great movement and empowering followers to change the status quo.
  • ....
Make your time worth it!
