Inspiration. Where Are You?
My head hit a brick wall today. It is night and I am desperate for finding something to write. My goal when I started the blog is writing every day. I keep looking for in my mind to find a topic which is worth writing, but I cannot find it. I started doubting myself, "You are losing your inspiration, you are losing the gut to do something big, to make yourself progress everyday."
I realize that I am facing a dragon in myself called "losing inspiration" and another one called "losing momentum". How can I fight with those two dragons? I pick up the book of Seth Godin and read his sharing about Inspiration:
Finding Inspiration Instead of It Finding You
"One approach to innovation and brainstorming is to wait for the muse to appear, to hope that it alights on our shoulder, to be ready to write down whatever comes to you
The other is to seek it out, will it to appear. train it to arrive on time and on command.
The first method plays into our fears. After all, if you're not inspired, it's not your fault if you don't ship, it's not your fault if you don't do anything remarkable - hey, I don't have any good ideas, you can't expect me to speak up if I don't have any good ideas.
The second method challenges the fear and annouonces that you've abandoned the Resistance and instead prepared to ship. Your first idea might not be good, or even your second or your teeth, but once you dedicate yourself to this cycle, yes, in fact, you will ship and make a difference.
Simple example: Start a blog and post once a day on how your favorite company can improve its products or its service. Do it every day for a month; post one new, actionable idea each and every day. Within a few weeks, you'll notice the change in the way you find, process, and ship ideas."His piece of writing just enlightens me. I understand the style of my writing now is pretty "instant noodle", the thoughts and the lessons are not deep enough to make people say WOW! However, I believe to be better at writing, the only way is writing, writing, and writing. There is no other way around so I pushed myself to keep going to the direction I believe: Writing everyday.
The Resistance is always inside us and trying to catch us,
"It is too early to start.and the best part I just find out is The Resistance have a close friend and his name is The Procrastination.
I am too young to do this.
I don't have experience to do this.
I don't have enough money to do this.
It is spring break, so I deserve a break.
My wife just yelled at me and I am not in a good mood now.
...ya li ya li... yala."
The Resistance and The Procrastination always team up to kill all of our ideas and inspiration. Therefore, we need to build up a castle called The Proactiveness inside of us to fight with these two guys and it is a never-ending battle.
In short: I decide to go HUNTING for INSPIRATION, not wait for the muse to appear.
Onward,
Trinh Nghiem
Keep on Writing :D
